Convert Oracle to Excel

We will use our advanced database converter Full Convert Enterprise to do the task and migrate

Connecting to databases

Opening screen As we start Full Convert, main form is empty.

Let's create new conversion session. Welcome dialog has a Create new conversion item for this purpose.

Source ora Here we will choose Oracle from the list of available source database formats and fill in connection properties.
If you are unsure, simply leave Automatic engine selected, navigate to your database folder and let Full Convert fill-in the fields for you.

How to fill in the fields:
Type in the proper service name (SID) of your Oracle database, specify correct username/password combination and you can simply select your database by clicking on the drop-down button in the Database field. If you dont have OCI (Oracle Client Interface) software installed, take advantage of our Direct TCP/IP connection mode.

Target xls Clicking Next, we need to select our desired target database.
In this case, we will select Microsoft Excel.

How to fill in the fields:
Type in your Excel document filename or click on the ellipsis (...) button to locate it via file find dialog. Alternatively, you can choose to process all Excel documents in a certain folder.

Tables select We will now select tables for conversion.

Please note that you can count rows of tables to easily see where data actually resides. Clicking "Unselect empty" moves all empty tables to 'Do not convert' list.

Summary Clicking "Next" button brings us to the last page in the wizard, the summary.

By default, "I want to convert immediately." option is selected. This is what we want, and will simply press Convert.

Otherwise, you can also choose to only explore target database at this point, as Full Convert has a database explorer built-in.

Conversion Full Convert will prompt for confirmation by default, but you can easily set this dialog not to show up anymore.

Pressing Convert button begins the conversion process.

Transfer You can cancel conversion process anytime. For smaller databases we are done in few seconds.

Summary

Conversion summary After conversion is finished, you will be presented with a summary, which you can save.
All eventual errors and warnings (hints) will be shown in a separate tabs for your inspection.

Log files can be saved as well.

Conversion summary sql You can also inspect and save SQL script generated during the conversion. Possible use for this is further manual inspection of data or use of our automated conversion process in any other desirable application.

Navigating the target database

Explorer Navigating structure tree shows us what the target database looks like now. You are now free to do further modifications on structure, rename columns or change their type, drop obsolete columns, extract part of a table to new table etc.
